SHORT Post – fossils in 3D

Last week, I finally started using my automatic photogrammetry Rig, and scanned the first test objects. Right now, the rig is placed at my employers’ office, so the first scans are published by Formwerk 3D.

Using this rig, we can get the needed pictures for 3D photogrammetry models in a clean and sharp quality in a very short time. Luckily, we got some fossils from the area to test the rig. Because the finds were made by private collectors, there is no information about species and date of the shells.

Fossils are perfect for the use of photogrammetry because of their mostly matte appearance and heterogen color. Because of these attributes, the noise in the resulting Polygonmodell is nearly non-existent.

If anyone can determine the species or date of the shown shell, it would be great if you can leave a comment below.
