Model of the Marienkirche Brandenburg in 3D

The former St. Mary’s Church on the Marienberg, Brandenburg, has not existed for a long time. It was demolished in 1557 and part of its structure can still be found in other buildings in Brandenburg today. Two models of St. Mary’s Church were made in the 18th century. One made of clay is still kept in Brandenburg Cathedral today. Another wooden model belongs to the collection of the city museum in the Frey Haus.

The 3D model from the animation shows the wooden model and was calculated from images freely available on the Internet. The quality of the 3D model is therefore a little poor, as the silver geometry view shows. Nevertheless, the generation of 3D data from tourist images and freely available image material is an alternative that should not be underestimated when it comes to preserving objects that may have already been destroyed, as has been shown many times using models from Syria and Ukraine.

It would also be interesting to see how a direct scan of the original compares to the quality of the collected online data in terms of resolution and detail.

The model of the church is also available as an interactive model on Sketchfab.
