SHORT Post – the mask from Uivar

This year I’m participating in the Sculpting January Challenge. The goal is to become a better sculptor by creating 31 models in one month.

On January 2nd, the theme was masks, so I tried to recreate the mask from Uivar (Romania). The object was found in the early 2000s during an excavation by the Free University of Berlin under the direction of Prof. Drasovan and Prof. Schier. The mask itself is about 6800 years old and was found in the center of the tell (Gomila) near Uivar.

For more information, see here:

Schier 2010, Die Maske von Uivar und ihr Kontext.

This model is merely a brief artistic sculpting exercise and is by no means a scientific model or an accurate scan.

If you want to join the challenge, just visit the website for more information. It’s a great way to improve your sculpting and time management skills. You don’t need any expensive tools. The free Blender 3D includes all the tools you need.
